Meme lore
What is the This Is Sparta meme?
The This Is Sparta meme is a still from the 2006 film 300 showing King Leonidas kicking a Persian messenger into a deep pit while shouting "This is Sparta!" It represents a forceful, dramatic, and often over-the-top rejection of something unwanted.
Origin & history
Within weeks of the film's March 2007 release, the scene was remixed, parodied, and captioned across early social media and video platforms. It became a shorthand for dramatically rejecting bad ideas, unwanted visitors, or anything deserving an emphatic "no" - one of the defining movie memes of the late 2000s internet.
