What is the Thinking Black Guy meme?
The Thinking Black Guy meme (also known as Roll Safe or "Think About It") shows actor Kayode Ewumi tapping his temple with a knowing smirk, as if sharing a clever life hack. The joke is that the logic is deliberately flawed - like "can't be broke if you don't check your bank account" - presented with unearned confidence.
Origin & history
Roll Safe is a character created by Kayode Ewumi for the BBC Three web series #HoodDocumentary, which aired in 2016. In one interview scene, Roll Safe offers deliberately bad advice with supreme confidence, then taps his temple while saying a woman has "good brains" - a gesture fans clipped into a reaction image.
The screenshot exploded on Twitter in January 2017 and quickly spread to Reddit and Instagram as a template for "can't have X if you never Y" logic. Despite frequent misattribution to Eddie Murphy or generic "thinking guy" labels, the meme is entirely Ewumi's Roll Safe character, used to celebrate obviously flawed reasoning presented as genius.
