What is the Never Again meme?
This is the blank visual version of the “Never Again” meme, based on Owlturd Comix’s four-panel comic “Vulnerable.” The pink character briefly leaves its box, is met with an unpleasant consequence, and retreats to its original enclosed shape. In meme adaptations, captions are commonly added to the character, the attempted change or exposure, the negative outcome, and the final return to a familiar habit, belief, identity, or comfort zone.
Origin & history
The source sequence appears to be the four-panel Owlturd Comix comic “Vulnerable,” published in April 2017 by the artist behind Shen Comix, also known as Owlturd. In the original narrative, a pink character leaves the safety of a box to become emotionally vulnerable, is punched, and returns to the box with a “never again” conclusion. Meme users subsequently removed or replaced the original dialogue with labels and captions, turning the sequence into a flexible template for failed self-improvement, social discomfort, rejected opinions, recurring mistakes, and retreating to a familiar comfort zone. The exact origin of this particular uncaptioned crop and its first meme upload is unclear.
