The clip comes from The Eric Andre Show, the absurdist Adult Swim comedy series that premiered in 2012. In a recurring man-on-the-street segment, Eric Andre approaches a locked gate outside a building and escalates from polite requests to violent shaking and screaming 'Let me in!' before collapsing on the ground in defeat.

Screenshots from the segment became a reaction meme on Reddit and Twitter around 2018–2019.
