The Crying Cat (Schmuserkadser) originated separately in June 2014 as a photoshopped Serious Cat with teary eyes, gaining fame on German imageboard pr0gramm before spreading globally. An anonymous 4chan user combined the two into a scope-view meme on September 5, 2016.
