The meme comes from episode 12, 'Angel's Gaze,' of the 2019 anime Wataten!: An Angel Flew Down to Me (Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita!), which aired in Japan on March 26, 2019. In a school play scene, character Yuu Matsumoto buys a cookie from Hana Shirosaki, and fans clipped the exchange into a three-panel exploitable.
